Branches cross, tangle—
A graveyard of bones.
Death lingers
while rebirth grows roots—
A rebellious resurrection
of the wild that refuses surrender,
and where the forest remembers
how to rise
—from the deadfall.
A tragedy in ex-soldier Gabriel Griffin’s life pulled him from the bottle and left him with a vendetta against evil. Now, armed with the nickname Deathwing, and an insatiable thirst for revenge, he and his team of ex-military men strive to save as many souls as possible from a faceless organization that thrives in the shadows of suffering. One day while on a raid, he and his team find Emersyn North’s name carved into the wall of a sinister boarding house, and he gets wrapped up in the hunt to find her. After three years and multiple frustratingly close failed recoveries, they realize someone has betrayed them—worse, someone has been playing them. When a tip comes in with coordinates to Emersyn’s location, Gabriel makes the decision to quickly and quietly go undercover to extract her.
Unfortunately, the island they find themselves on is fraught with dangers. The estate sits on rugged terrain steeped in ghost stories, plagued by old war history and owned by none other than Greg Mahoney.
Together Gabriel, and his teammate Seven, must work to gain Emersyn’s trust while staying low-profile and planning for ex-fil. But, the woman they find doesn’t make it easy. She isn’t the victim they anticipated, and she has her own vendetta against a past she hasn’t fully escaped.
Emersyn North had everything ripped from her at ten-years-old. She had to learn to survive and fight against a world that sought to keep her small. Now twenty-six years old, she fights her own battles and trusts no one but herself—it’s safer that way. Until two unconventional (and very attractive) guards show up and her previously held belief—that no one is coming to save her—is thrown out the window.
But not everything is as it seems—Gabriel and Seven aren’t the only ones trying to get her off the island. When a plan to use her as leverage in a larger power play is revealed, Emersyn needs to decide who to trust, and quickly.
In this dark romantic thriller, the past and present meet in a story of survival, found family and the discovery of just how far someone is willing to go for the ones they love. It explores how, even in the depths of darkness, the best weapons are belief in oneself, hope of a better future and the lingering echo of a love that refuses to let go.
